What: Visit Oakland will offer special assistance to visitors displaced in the Bay Area as a result of the Hurricane Sandy storm on the East Coast. Individuals who are extending their stay for a day or two can stop by the Visit Oakland office to receive a $100 gift card to use at local attractions and restaurants. The tourism bureau hopes that this extra support will help with the unexpected financial costs that come with additional travel days and overnight stays. These individuals can use their gift cards to spend time at one of Oakland's attractions, including Chabot Space & Science Center, Children's Fairyland, Oakland Museum of California, Oakland Zoo, local art galleries, wine tours, and much more. Those experiencing delays and flight cancellations can bring their airline ticket to the office to redeem the gift card.
Who: Visit Oakland is a non-profit organization marketing the City of Oakland as a travel destination. Visit Oakland offers a wide variety of complimentary services and materials for travelers and meeting planners interested in experiencing Oakland.
Why: Many people across the country are experiencing difficulties due to the Hurricane. Visit Oakland would like to help any individuals who are trying to travel home or elsewhere by offering support to those displaced locally. With the gift card, travelers will have the opportunity to experience Oakland without worrying about unexpected travel expenses.
When: Visit Oakland will assist visitors from Wednesday, October 30 until major airports are back in operation on the East Coast. The office is open Monday - Friday, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
