Oakland, CA - Get a rare, sneak peek at some of the best contemporary artwork being made anywhere, and plan your further adventures into the diverse cultural landscape of Oakland and the East Bay. The preview exhibition runs through June 12th, featuring a cross-section of works from participating artists, and gives you a taste for what is in store at this summer’s East Bay Open Studios. You can even play “guest curator” by suggesting your own “Top Three Must See” list from among the participating artists.
For two weekends in June, over 400 leading artists open their studios to the public, offering a rare opportunity for art fans of all ages to visit artists’ studios, peek inside their creative process, and purchase works directly from local artists. Discover painting, sculpture, drawing, watercolor, textiles, jewelry, ceramics, photography, mixed media, glass, mosaic, printmaking, book-arts, furniture, installation, paper, and metal arts. During Open Studios week businesses and organizations present more innovative art, groundbreaking museum and gallery exhibitions, live concerts, and great food throughout Oakland and the East Bay!
Everyone knows by now that Oakland is a hub for live music, outdoor recreation and hot new restaurants, but many don’t know it is also home to one of the largest artist communities in the nation. Artists creating cutting-edge contemporary art, craft, and traditional works in ateliers, workshops and studios throughout the East Bay enrich our community. Neighborhoods with open studios include: Oakland’s Uptown, Jack London Square, Temescal, Rockridge, Jingletown, Fruitvale, Diamond, West Oakland, Glenview, Laurel, Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Richmond, Alameda and more.
Pick up this year’s Directory of East Bay Arts at the Pro Arts gallery, in downtown Oakland, or at locations throughout the community. East Bay Open Studios offers the public an amazing way to connect to the creative and vital arts community in the region. For over 35 years, Pro Arts has been serving artists and public audiences by presenting the best art made in the region, and the East Bay Open Studios is one of the largest and the oldest such event in the west.
