With incredible indie coffee shops, reputable restaurants, a bevy of bars and plenty of pizzazz, there's no denying the renaissance taking over Oakland from Downtown to Uptown. But where to go to experience the revival?
Best to start the day off with a little déjà brew and Dan S assures Awaken Café has pretty much everything. "Premium coffee, tasty sandwiches, good music, and cute baristas... if they served burritos, you'd never have to go to the Mission again!" Amen! And at Farley's East, the coffee is "5 times smoother than ordinary smooth," or "smooVe" according to Len L. But don't thank us, thank Farley's coming east and "giving Uptown another hidden gem!" Wondering where all the skinny jeans go? The cool kids are getting cozy at Mama Buzz Café, "a coffee shop that's home to live music, a communal atmosphere" and an outdoor patio. With quality mochas, vegan options and beer to boot, Kai S extols, "This indie coffee shop" lives up to the buzz!
The restaurant scene won't leave you hungry and at the new Nex, Kris B suggests slipping in for the ultimate trifecta of "a drink, a treat and good conversation." You can savor everything from "marrow bones to funnel cake fries." That's right: Funnel. Cake. Fries. If you're looking for some "great upscale Southern food," Jon B recs Hibiscus. "Maroon Jerk Quail and Spicy Crab with Grits... so delicious even Dave Chappelle was eating there!"
Keep Yelping Oaklanders....we hear ya!
