TOURISM WORKS
Travel is a clean, safe industry which stimulates the local economy from air travel to hotel rooms, concert tickets to restaurant meals, and gasoline to gifts. In 2012 total travel spending in Oakland accounted for $1 Billion, created 14,000 jobs, and $12 Million in Transient Hotel Taxes. Oakland has 2.75 Million annual overnight visitors.
Tourism Works for Everybody
Tourism is a clean, safe industry that provides jobs, adds tax revenues, expands services and supports arts and culture in the city - while requiring very little in the way of community services. As the Visit Oakland provides information, accommodations, transportation, and other services to guests, we project a positive image for Oakland's overall community, contributing to the city's economic vitality, future development and growth and local job base.
Tourism generates jobs - Travel-related businesses employ more than 14,000 people in Oakland. These jobs range from pilots at Oakland International Airport to housekeepers at hotels, shuttle drivers at the airport to animal tenders at the zoo.
